Short run
Record Pressing or Vinyl Pressing is having a resurgence before few years. Bands in specific reply to their fans often issue both a CD and Vinyl version.
And there are several questions that come up around how to achieve that. Specifically, exactly how much music can fit on either side? Before, interesting question for a generation who has never manufactured a tape or vinyl.
It was once that to discharge a cassette with different Side A and B material you adjusted your tracks to split as evenly since they could with regards to period of time. The more side was determined and so the total amount of tape dependant on doubling the longest side.
When pressing CDS, there's no need to split because there's no Side 1 or Side 2 to a CD.
So the best practice when manufacturing is to provide a CDR for the CD pressing and another one for the Vinyl pressing with the Side A and B designated. For instance, actually write on the disc within a sharpy - Side A tracks 1-5, Side B tracks 6-10.
Though with different formats - 7" and 12", 33 and 45 LP, how do you know which format works with how much time you require.
Here's a breakdown of timings to illustrate how each format has a different limit.
7" 45LP with a large hole 4 - 4.a few minutes per side
7" 33LP with a small hole 6 - 6.5 minutes per side
12" 33LP 20 - 21 is OK but 18 minutes per side is good
Creating your album begins with step one, all you have to do is contact somebody that understands how to do what you want to do. Speak with somebody who may take you from where you are towards the moment you stand on stage at your CD and Vinyl release party.
